Background: The top tier division in Scotland between seasons 1975-76 & 1997-98. The Scottish League Premier Division was formed as part of league reconstruction in order to reduce the number of clubs competing in the top division. The first season saw 10 clubs competing as opposed to the 18 competing in the final Scottish League Division One. The Scottish League Premier Division was scrapped at the end of season 1997-98 in order to make way for the breakaway Scottish Premier League.
